The Rural Ontario Development (ROD) Program is now open for applications, and it’s bringing new opportunities to small businesses in rural communities across Ontario, including those in Sarnia. As part of Ontario’s Rural Economic Development Strategy, the provincial Enabling Opportunity program has been expanded, doubling in size with $20 million in funding available over the next two years.
The Business Development stream is especially relevant for local brick-and-mortar businesses with 1 to 20 employees. Eligible applicants can receive up to $10,000 in funding on a 35% cost-share basis to support projects that drive growth, create jobs, or attract investment. Projects include facility upgrades, equipment purchases, or new initiatives that help a business reach new customers or improve operations.
The application window is now open through September 24, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. Businesses can also register for a free information session on the program website. This is a valuable opportunity for rural entrepreneurs in our region to access funding that supports long-term growth and development.
